Eligibility Criteria

An application for determination is required if:

• You were born abroad and need your automatic right to citizenship by birth officially recognized.
• Your citizenship status is obscured by a lack of primary documentation (e.g., missing birth certificates or expired foundational passports).
• Your status requires validation due to historical changes in dual citizenship regulations prior to the 2010 Constitution.

Required Documentation

Applicants must submit the following documents to the Consular Section for evaluation:

• Form 6 Application: Two (2) copies of the duly completed and notarized Form 6 (Declaration of Citizenship).
• Proof of Parental Citizenship: Original and copies of the mother’s and/or father’s Kenyan National Identity Card and Passport at the time of the applicant's birth.
• Applicant's Birth Certificate: Original and copy of the foreign or local birth certificate (translated into English if issued in a local Philippine dialect).
• Foreign Passport & Status Proof: Clear copies of the applicant’s current foreign passport bio-data page and Certificate of Naturalization (if applicable).
• Photographs: Two (2) recent, identical passport-sized colored photographs on a white background.
• Consular Processing Fee: Paid via the designated consular banking or electronic channel.

Processing Steps

Document Submission & Interview

• Schedule a consular appointment to present your physical document dossier. The consular officer will conduct a brief verification interview to review the genealogical links.

Verification and Clearance

• The application packet is securely forwarded to the Directorate of Immigration Services in Nairobi for archival cross-referencing, database validation, and security clearance.

Issuance of Status Certificate

• Upon successful validation, the Ministry issues a formal Letter of Determination of Citizenship. This official certificate permits the applicant to subsequently apply for a Kenyan National ID Card and e-Passport.
